STD Manufacturing Announces Sale Of AngioLink Corporation
STOUGHTON, Mass., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- STD Manufacturing, Inc., an OEM medical device engineering and manufacturing company headquartered in Stoughton, Massachusetts, announced today that AngioLink Corporation, the first company that was incubated at STD, was acquired by Medtronic, Inc. AngioLink Corporation is a medical device company developing wound management and wound closure products, including the EVS(TM) Vascular Closure System, which received FDA PMA approval last week. AngioLink's EVS system is a unique, arterial stapling device for use closing holes and punctures made in arteries in connection with the over 8 million catheter-based surgical procedures such as angioplasty, angiograms and the like performed each year. The EVS is also approved for sale in Europe and Canada. AngioLink was incubated at STD before being separated into an independent company several years ago, and STD will continue to provide manufacturing and assembly services for the EVS system.
"Five years ago we decided to develop a better femoral artery closure device to address the enormous unmet needs in this market. It is especially gratifying to start from scratch, develop a great product, form a company, get FDA approval and now join forces with a company of Medtronic's stature," said Steven Tallarida, President of STD Manufacturing, Inc.
"On the heels of the tremendous results obtained in our clinical trial and the receipt of our PMA from the FDA, we are now part of the pre-eminent medical technology company in the world. This will accelerate the introduction of the EVS system in all the major medical device markets," said James Lousararian, former President and CEO of AngioLink. "Being nurtured at STD and supported by STD through the many stages of development reduced the cost and time of development immeasurably."
